Mel wants people to know that there is a way through it, because she has been through it - starting from the bottom and getting back up to your feet from nowhere. She has been through incarceration, child protective services, CHIPS, and Alternatives to Incarcerating Mothers (AIM) court. She has been through substance use recovery, and continues involvement in Narcotics Anonymous.
Mel's experience gives her the ability to say, "You can do it." Her goal is to empower others to find their own unique ways to recovery. To do so, she trained in Recovery Coaching, and this has become her main focus.
In her spare time, Mel enjoys the company of her two kids (ages 4 and 2), although with a pet hamster and part-time pet dog. The outdoors often call to her, with fishing (including ice fishing), trail walking, and disc golfing being some of her favorite activities. She loves listening to all kinds of music.
