Mental Health and Substance Use Challenges

Shelley provides Family and Parenting Support to families/individuals interested in increasing harmony and positive interactions within their home setting while recognizing each family member's individuality and unique contributions. Shelley provides peer supports to parents working on goals related to family wellness, recovery, and wholeness. She provides peer supports to youth who have experienced trauma within their family setting and who would like to focus on wellness as it relates to positive coping, forgiveness, and self identity.

Shelley has extensive training and experience in trauma-informed care, parent-child reunification processes, attachment theory, and family wellness. She understands  the impact domestic violence, substance use, and mental health have on families.  She is also trained in a variety parenting curricula to include Circle of Security, Love and Logic, and others. As a family and parenting support peer, Shelley pulls ideas for family wellness from these areas, as well as from her own personal life experiences.

Shelley is also an avid crafter and artist. She believes the creative arts can be a powerful tool for healing. Practicing the creative arts teaches many transferable skills for managing life's challenges. Shelley has a mobile art studio that she can bring into people's homes, or they can meet with her in one of our spaces.

During her time away from Milkweed Connections Shelley enjoys family time with her children, upcycling and craft projects, and spending time outdoors during the winter season.
