Mental Health and Substance Use Challenges

Formerly Incarcerated

Andrew joins Milkweed Connections with a wide variety of professional and educational accolades.  He has experience working with all ages from every walk of life.  From small town community outreach to inner city emergency shelter work, he offers a vast array of experience. His passion to work with individuals has allowed him to immerse himself in lives of those being at-risk, experiencing mental health, trauma, and substance abuse recovery.  His advocacy and resilience combined with a positive, yet direct approach allows others to be self-empowered in their own decision making.

Compassionate and understanding, Andrew has a solid understanding of mental health/trauma/substance use recovery from his own lived experience.  Andrew brings a unique perspective to living with a mental health/substance abuse diagnosis and maintaining success. Engaging in recovery personally, Andrew has successfully rebuilt relationships that were once strained.  His understanding of self-esteem building and managing negative self-talk allows him to tell his own story and use it to help people know they are not alone.  Having navigated the system both professionally and personally, his experience allows a peer perspective in mentoring people through what can at times be very confusing situations.

Andrew enjoys spending time with his family and his dog.  He enjoys being outdoors engaged in activities such as canoeing or fishing.  He strives to live his best life and radiate positivity to everyone he interacts with. He believes that you are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.
